BMW 330i, 340i, 430i and 440i Coming with B48 and B58 Engines
Some news on upcoming F3x (F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F36) model names and engines.
All re-engined F3x models will get new designations:
Model name change for the re-engined F3x: 328i (N20) -> 330i (B48), 335i (N55) -> 340i (B58).
4-cyl B48 engine will have 330i/430i designation instead of 328i/428i
6-cyl B58 engine will have 340i/440i designation instead of 335i/435i.
PHEV F30 will come as 330e, not 328e.

Some 2015 New Vehicle Preparations and Maintenance Changes
Here are some highlights of the changes for the 2015 BMW models lineup.
New features as of 7/14 vehicle production:
All models:
The memory button for the electric seat settings is now marked with “SET” instead of “M.”
All models except Z4 Roadster:
When equipped with Navigation, an advanced version of Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI; option 6AM) provides a new function. Additional route suggestions are offered, highlighted by a “globe” icon in the NAV screen. This is especially helpful when traveling in heavy traffic situations such as rush hour.
2 Series, Z4 Roadster:
The standard-equipment new generation Radio BMW Professional is now equipped with 3G functionality.
All models equipped with optional heated steering wheel (option 248):
An activation symbol now appears in the instrument cluster. This feature allows the driver to immediately notice if the heating is active, without having to look to the activation switch on the left side of the steering column.
228i; 3 Series (except M3), 4 Series (except M4), 5 Series:
For improved legibility, the time display in the instrument cluster has been relocated from the center to the bottom right, under the tachometer.
2, 3, 4 Series:
Servotronic power steering can now be configured using the Dynamic Driving Control toggle switch on the center console, separately from the existing chassis and drivetrain settings.
When equipped with optional navigation and in combination with automatic transmission, predictive gearshift strategy (shift recommendation indicator) is displayed using navigation data when the transmission is being driven in the manual mode.
Radio on/off/volume control knob now has imprinted “ON/OFF” (does not pertain to M3 and M4).
2 Series with optional M Sport package (option code 337):
Low-dust brake pads (non-asbestos organic [NAO]) are fitted, except when equipped with the optional Sport Brake Package.

BMW Debuts BMW Innovations Campaign Showcasing Key Technology Features
BBMW of North America will introduce a new campaign, BMW Innovations, which will highlight how the range of BMW vehicles share several key technology features with the visionary BMW i8, a plug-in hybrid high-performance vehicle. The BMW i8, with the “i” standing for innovation, exhibits futuristic design and groundbreaking technology built upon BMW’s storied history.
“Innovation is at the core of everything we do. Following in the lead of the BMW i8, which epitomizes innovation, we are elevating the technology across our entire range of BMW models, as highlighted in this national campaign,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President, Marketing, BMW of North America.
Beginning September 1, 2014, BMW will debut three new national television spots to further detail how the groundbreaking technological innovations within the BMW i8 transfer to the greater BMW family. All three spots feature the BMW i8, now on sale:
“Looking Forward” uses cinematography to illustrate that the BMW i8’s Full-Color Head-Up Display is also available in the BMW 3 Series. Full-Color Head-Up Display projects important driving information, including speed limit, and assistance systems displays, including current speed, navigation and collision warnings, into the driver’s field of view;
“Change” focuses on the impressive LED headlight technology as the BMW i8 dramatically transforms into the BMW 5 Series. It draws attention to Adaptive LED Headlights to provide brighter lighting and can turn in the direction the vehicle is traveling to provide optimal road illumination in every condition; and
“Eyes Everywhere” takes viewers on a cross-dimensional journey through the BMW i8’s iDrive screen to reveal Surround Camera System in the BMW X3. Surround View Camera System provides a 360° panorama view around the vehicle, which assists drivers while parking, maneuvering in tight situations or when navigating in areas with limited visibility.
In dealerships nationwide, customers will be encouraged to engage in a ‘tech drive,’ which allows them to experience the cutting-edge innovations in BMW vehicles first-hand. This integrated campaign also includes digital media and social media programs, designed to increase awareness of the technologies present in the BMW i8 and throughout the BMW family of vehicles.

Dinan Releases DINANTRONICS Tune for 335i, 435i, 535i
Dinan has just announced new applications for the DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner, with the goal of having the majority of the BMW lineup covered by year’s end.
Their latest releases are the DINANTRONICS for the F32/F33/F36 435i and the wastegate compatible versions for the F30 335i and the F10 535i. These applications join the growing list of vehicles already in the DINANTRONICS compatible stable that include the F22 M235i, F30 335i, F07/10 550i, F06/12/13 650i, F01/02 750i, F10 M5 (STD & Competition Package), and the F06/12/13 M6 (STD & Competition Package).

ACS4 4 Series Gran Coupe by AC Schnitzer
AC Schnitzer shows us its take on the 4 Series Gran Coupe — dubbed the ACS4 Gran Coupe.
On the performance side, the ACS4 gets power bumps for the following models:
428i – 294hp (+94 hp over factory)
435i – 350hp (+50 hp)
420i – 245hp (+61 hp)
420d – 218hp (+34 hp)
430d – 309hp (+51 hp)
435d – 360hp (+47 hp)
The gasoline engines are all available with an intercooler. Suspension upgrade includes 1) a sports suspension which lowers the front by 10-25mm and the rear by 5-15mm, 2) racing suspension which lowers the front by 30-40mm / rear by 25-40mm, or 3) suspension spring kit which lowers the front by 25mm / rear by 10-25mm.
Exhaust offering includes the AC Schnitzer silencer with two chromed tailpipe trims, which comes in a choice of “Racing Evo”, “Racing” or “Sport” style, in right/left combination.
Styling wise, the ACS4 gets a front spoiler and rear diffuser (for cars with and without M Sport package), carbon mirror covers, chromed front grille (for M Sport cars) and rear skirt protective film. On the interior, ACS offers aluminum handbrake handle in “Black Line” style, gear knob with digital gear display, illuminated leather gear knob or the aluminum “Black Line” gear knob. An aluminum pedal set and foot rest, a keyholder and floor mats in velour are also offered.

BMW NA has issued a recall for certain 4-cylinder powered 20i and 28i models for potential brake power assist problems. Here is the recall information from the NHTSA.

sDrive28i Roadster, and 2014 BMW 428i Coupe, and 428i xDrive Coupe. Due to insufficient lubrication, the vacuum pump that
supplies brake power assistance may fail.
Consequence:
A failure of the brake vacuum pump results in a reduction in braking power that could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will install a locking ring in the camshaft to retain the camshaft seal disk in the proper location,
free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in November 2014. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW announces price adjustment in the US effective Jan 5, 2015
BMW of North America today announced a modest inflationary price increase for some Model Year 2015 vehicles, effective January 5th, 2015. The Destination and Handling fee for all models is $950 and is included in the following list for current and new prices.
The revised pricing covers the 4 Series, X1 and X5.

Official confirmation that 340i comes this Summer. No 440i, yet.
We’ve been reporting since last Summer that the 335i would be replaced by the 340i to coincide with the F30 3 Series LCI facelift and changeover from the N55 engine to the new inline 6 turbo B58 engine.
And now the 340i has officially appeared on BMWUSA’s official production map for the 2016 model year. As the schedule indicates, production of the 340i begins in July-August 2015, with the Munich plant starting production in July and Rosslyn plant in August.
Its sibling, the F32 435i coupe will maintain its badge for the 2016 model year however, perhaps waiting until its LCI facelift to take on the 440i moniker (which has appeared in BMW’s systems since last Summer).
The 328i and 428i also retain their badges for the 2016 model year, but our info shows that the 328i becomes the 330i in 2016 (for the U.S. 2017 model year) when it gets the new 4 cylinder turbo B48 engine to replace its current N20 engine.

BMW 3/4 Series was best selling premium car in U.S. in 2014
For the fifth straight year, the BMW 3 Series (4 Series included) was the best selling premium car in 2014 in the United States.
Here are the 2014 stats:
142,232 3-Series / 4-Series sold in U.S. in 2014
3-Series / 4-Series made up 42% of U.S. BMW sales
3-Series / 4-Series was America’s 16th-best-selling car in 2014
3-Series / 4-Series sales reached highest level since 2007 (when 142,490 were sold)
3-Series hasn’t been outsold in premium category since 2009
The runner up was the Lexus RX with 107,490 units sold.
For a more direct comparison, Mercedes sold 75,065 C-Class last year.

Two BMW winners in the Auto Zeitung Design Trophy 2015
Two BMW models have won over voters with their exceptional design in the readers’ survey conducted by German motoring magazine Auto Zeitung. The design of the elegantly sporty BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe took the honours in the “Sedans / Station wagons / Vans” category, while the extrovert use of forms embodied by the BMW 2 Series Convertible won the day in the compact class. Elsewhere, the MINI 5-door, the BMW M3/M4 and the BMW X6 ranked among the top three most aesthetically pleasing models in the small car, sports car and SUV class respectively.
To decide the winners of the Design Trophy 2015, the editors invited readers of Auto Zeitung and users of www.autozeitung.de to vote for the newly launched cars they felt represented the best design. More than 22,000 readers responded to the call to vote. The winners and runners-up in five categories were determined by the numbers of votes cast.
The outstanding quality of BMW Group design has earned a continuous stream of praise from the Auto Zeitung readership over recent years. Last year, for instance, they voted for the all-electric BMW i3 urban car, the sporty BMW i8 plug-in hybrid and the BMW 2 Series Coupe as the winners in their respective categories.
