BMW M Performance exhaust system Active Sound for diesel models

$

In terms of power and performance, modern BMW diesel engines are on par with the brand’s petrol engines – only with regard to the desired sound are there any noticeable differences. In order to compensate for this acoustic difference, BMW is now offering the BMW M Performance exhaust system Active Sound. This new complete system comprising exhaust, sound system and control unit was developed exclusively for diesel-powered vehicles of the current BMW 2 Series, 3 Series and 4 Series and is perfectly attuned to the basic acoustics of each engine. The sound can be individually controlled via the Driving Experience Control function: In the ECO PRO and COMFORT modes, the system produces a clear, transparent sound that is suitable for long distances, is always convincing in day-to-day traffic and underscores the car’s dynamic appearance. In the SPORT or SPORT+ mode, the Active Sound System unfolds its entire acoustic spectrum, ensuring maximum emotionalism. Therefore, BMW offers drivers with sporting ambitions in particular the opportunity to further individualise the engine sound and their vehicle as a whole.

In addition to the sporty acoustics, the look of the new sports exhaust system is also striking, as the dual exhaust with chrome BMW M Performance tailpipe trims blends in perfectly with the vehicle’s design. In conjunction with the BMW M Performance exhaust system Active Sound, vehicles with 18d engines and all 20ds produced before July 2015 are fitted with an additional tailpipe. The more powerful engines are visually enhanced by a larger tailpipe diameter.

The system, which was developed by BMW, is produced in Germany and fulfils the brand’s high quality standards with regard to the choice of materials, design and craftsmanship. Additional approval or entries are not required.

The BMW M Performance exhaust system Active Sound is available for the following vehicles and engines:
BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible (F22/23): 18d, 20d, 25d.
BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring (F30/31): 18d, 20d, 25d, 28d, 30d, 35d.
BMW 4 Series Coupe, Convertible, Gran Coupe (F32/33/36): 18d, 20d, 25d, 30d, 35d.

Market launch of the BMW M Performance exhaust system Active Sound for the above mentioned models will be carried out successively from September 2015 to March 2016.

BMW has announced 4 Series model updates for Spring 2016. This is a global press release.

BMW 4 Series model range: all-new selection of petrol engines and another latest-generation diesel engine.
The engine line-up for the BMW 4 Series model range will be refreshed in spring 2016 as another four representatives of the BMW Group’s new engine generation take to the stage. The selection of petrol engines is all new and another four-cylinder diesel from the latest crop will also be available for the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe from March 2016.

The flagship engine will be a totally newly developed six-cylinder in- line unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which develops maximum output of 240 kW/326 hp (up 15 kW/20 hp) from its 3.0- litre displacement and produces peak torque of 450 Newton metres / 332 lb-ft (+ 50 Nm / 37 lb-ft). In the new BMW 440i Coupe the engine channels its power through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as an option (the latter is standard on the BMW 440i Convertible and BMW 440i Gran Coupe). Added to which, the three most powerful versions of the BMW 4 Series model range can also be specified with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

The BMW 440i Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds (automatic: 5.0 seconds), the BMW 440i Convertible completes the same sprint in 5.4 seconds and the BMW 440i Gran Coupe posts a figure of 5.1 seconds. This represents a 0.2-second improvement for the BMW 440i Coupe, while the other two models – when fitted with the Steptronic transmission – both shave 0.1 seconds off the times set by their predecessors. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are both reduced by up to 12 per cent and now stand at 7.7 – 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres / 36.7 – 38.2 mpg imp (automatic: 6.8 – 6.6 litres / 41.5 – 42.8 mpg imp) and 179 – 172 grams per kilometre (159 – 154 g/km) for the BMW 440i Coupe, 7.2 – 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres (39.2 – 41.5 mpg imp) and 167 –159 grams per kilometre for the BMW 440i Convertible and 6.8 – 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres (41.5 – 42.8 mpg imp) and 159 – 154 grams per kilometre for the BMW 440i Gran Coupe (figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified).

The new four-cylinder petrol engines available for the BMW 4 Series from March 2016 also play their part in enhancing both sports performance and efficiency. With output raised by 5 kW/7 hp to 185 kW/252 hp and peak torque of 350 Newton metres (258 lb-ft), the most powerful latest-generation four-cylinder unit provides 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) times of 5.9 seconds (automatic: 5.8 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Coupe, 6.4 seconds (6.3 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Convertible and 5.9 seconds (5.9 seconds) for the new BMW 430i Gran Coupe. The BMW 430i Coupe and BMW 430i Gran Coupe record fuel onsumption and CO2 emissions of 6.5 – 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres / 43.5 – 46.3 mpg imp (automatic: 5.8 – 5.5 litres / 48.7 – 51.4 mpg imp) and 151 – 143 grams per kilometre (136 – 129 g/km). The BMW 430i Convertible posts figures of 7.0 – 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres / 40.4 – 42.8 mpg imp (6.3 – 5.9 litres / 44.8 – 47.9 mpg imp) and 162 – 154 grams per kilometre (146 – 138 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified). BMW xDrive can also be specified for these model variants. Models with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system also come with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.

The BMW 420i Coupe, BMW 420i Convertible and BMW 420i Gran Coupe will likewise be powered by a member of the latest engine generation from March 2016, in the shape of the 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder unit. All three are also fitted as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and available with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as an option. The new BMW 420i Coupe requires 7.3 seconds (automatic: 7.5 seconds) to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), while the BMW 420i Convertible and BMW 420i Gran Coupe log times of 8.2 seconds (8.4 seconds) and 7.5 seconds (7.7 seconds) respectively. Combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions stand at 6.1 – 5.8 litres per 100 kilometers / 46.3 – 48.7 mpg imp (automatic: 5.8 – 5.5 litres / 48.7 – 51.4 mpg imp) and 141 – 134 grams per kilometre (134 – 127 g/km) for both the BMW 420i Coupe and the BMW 420i Gran Coupe, while the BMW 420i Convertible records figures of 6.6 – 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres / 42.8 – 45.6 mpg imp (6.2 – 5.8 litres / 45.6 – 48.7 mpg imp) and 153 – 145 grams per kilometre (144 – 136 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified). The BMW 420i xDrive Coupe and BMW 420i xDrive Gran Coupe all-wheel-drive models are both offered with new engines and can also be ordered with a manual gearbox or Steptronic transmission.

Another, particularly powerful four-cylinder diesel engine from the latest generation will be available for the BMW 425d Coupe, BMW 425d Convertible and BMW 425d Gran Coupe from March 2016. The latest edition of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for diesel engines imbues the unit with maximum output of 165 kW/224 hp and peak torque of 450 Newton metres (332 lb-ft). This increased pulling power whisks the new BMW 425d Coupe, new BMW 425d Convertible and new BMW 425d Gran Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds (automatic: 6.1 seconds), 7.1 seconds (6.7 seconds) and 6.7 seconds (6.3 seconds) respectively. This extra sporting sharpness – which cuts 0 -100 km/h (62 mph) times by up to 0.4 seconds, depending on the model variant – is accompanied by reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of up to 8 per cent. The BMW 425d Coupe now boasts figures of 4.9 – 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres / 57.7 – 61.4 mpg imp (automatic: 4.7 – 4.4 litres / 60.1 – 64.2 mpg) and 129 – 121 grams per kilometre (124 – 116 g/km), the BMW 425d Convertible records 5.4 – 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres / 52.3 – 55.4 mpg imp (5.1 – 4.8 litres / 55.4 – 58.9 mpg) and 141 – 133 grams per kilometre (135 – 127 g/km), and the BMW 425d Gran Coupe posts 5.1 – 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres / 55.4 – 60.1 mpg imp (4.8 – 4.6 litres / 58.9 – 61.4 mpg) and 133 – 125 grams per kilometre (127 – 120 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified).

BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW M4 Convertible: Open Air package enables even greater open-top motoring pleasure.

A model-specific Open Air package will also be available as an option from March 2016 for the BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW M4 Convertible. A heated steering wheel, neck warmer (adjustable through three stages), wind deflector, HiFi loudspeaker system and through-loading system between the boot area and rear compartment raise the pleasure of open-top motoring to new heights and provide additional functionality.

New, exceptionally powerful four-cylinder diesel engine for the BMW 325d Sedan and BMW 325d Touring.
The handing over of the baton from one engine generation to the next underpins further advances in the sporting ability and efficiency of the BMW 325d Sedan and BMW 325d Touring. Their new four- cylinder diesel engine benefits from the latest edition of BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, including multi-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection, and develops maximum output of 165 kW/224 hp from its 2.0-litre displacement.

Both models allow customers to link the new version of the 2.0-litre engine with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight- speed Steptronic transmission as an option. The 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration of the new BMW 325d Touring is 6.7 seconds with the manual gearbox and 6.3 seconds when the Steptronic transmission is fitted. Its fuel consumption comes in at 5.2 – 4.9 litres (automatic: 5.0 – 4.7 litres) per 100 kilometres / 54.3 – 57.7 mpg imp (56.5 – 60.1 mpg imp), and CO2 emissions are 137 – 129 grams per kilometre (131 – 123 g/km; figures according to EU test cycle, may vary depending on the tyre format specified).

The BMW 4 Series LCI facelift prototype has been spotted for the first time. The changes seen on this Gran Coupe model will also be carried over to the Coupe and Convertible models.

As expected, the headlight design has been revised. They have moved further apart and now feature the more angular and open style angel eyes with LED bar connecting to kidney grilles, very similar to those seen on the original 4 Series Concept car.

The front bumper features a sportier styling with broader side air intakes in the front apron and more intricate styling of the central front apron.

Out back, the tail lights will be full LED, although it’s difficult to see the new design in these photos.

The LCI model is expected to be introduced sometime next year and will continue the 430i and 440i designations in the U.S. As these new models (with new engines) have just been introduced this year, the LCI models are not expected to receive power bumps.
